Education and Awareness

The plight of those we serve is often misunderstood. Poverty is a complex problem requiring solutions from multiple levels: impoverished individuals, individuals who donate time, talent and treasure, churches, charitable organizations like Catholic Charities, corporations, and governments of all levels. While our six agencies in the Archdiocese of Indianapolis work tirelessly to serve the needs of almost 100,000 individuals each year (70% of whom are not Catholic), there are larger systemic changes that must be made as well.

To this end, Catholic Charities USA has launched an aggressive, yet obtainable, goal to reduce poverty by 50 percent by 2020. The Campaign to Reduce Poverty has multiple facets and calls on all of us to learn more about our Catholic faith, learn more about the struggles of those who cannot feed their families, and to do something about it. They are asking all of us to get involved and to strengthen our families, neighborhoods, churches, counties, states and our nation as-a-whole.
