Originally created in the early 1980s, published in 1994 and 1996 and revised in July 2003 and October 2004 to incorporate policies and procedures in the U.S. bishops' "Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People" and the essential norms for dealing with allegations of sexual abuse.

Archbishop
Buechlein informs Catholics of the expected release in January
of audit results from every U.S. diocese to determine whether
the dioceses are in compliance with the Charter for the Protection
of Children and Young People and the Essential Norms.
