Originally created in the early 1980s, published in 1994 and 1996 and revised in July 2003 and October 2004 to incorporate policies and procedures in the U.S. bishops' "Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People" and the essential norms for dealing with allegations of sexual abuse.

Update from Archbishop Daniel M. Buechlein, O.S.B., November 2003
Archbishop Buechlein informs Catholics of the expected release in January of audit results from every U.S. diocese to determine whether the dioceses are in compliance with the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People and the Essential Norms.

Carla Hill appointed new archdiocesan victim assistance coordinator
From a September 17, 2010 article in The Criterion: Carla Hill has been appointed the Archdiocese of Indianapolis’ victim assistance coordinator. Hill will coordinate the archdiocese’s response to provide emotional and spiritual support for victims of sexual abuse by clergy, religious, paid lay staff or volunteers in the parishes, schools and agencies of the Church in central and southern Indiana.
