St. Rose of Lima Religious Education staff and students put on their annual Mardi Gras Celebration on Sunday, February 19, 2012 to benefit The Holy Childhood Association.

This fun-filled carnival lasted only two and a half hours but we were able to raise $1,572.45 for HCA.

Every RE class is asked to run a carnival-like game booth; cake wheel, ring toss, miniature golf, ball toss, fishing game, etc…  We also had a jail where you could lock up your friend and they have to raise bail to get out.

We had a raffle going on all morning with different items from local businesses and parishioners. This year we raffled off over 30 prizes.

Every child who plays the games gets a paper to get stamped at each booth until they fill up the 12 spots on the grid, and then their paper is put into the big drawing for the Mardi Gras Basket! Always a hit with the kids!

This is a great way for our parishioners to have fun together before the Lenten Season begins and it is a wonderful service project to raise funds for the HCA. I am so proud of all our students and catechists as they put a lot of effort into making this event such a success. We know the money we raise will go to help many less fortunate children have a better life. This makes us so happy.

If you are ever in Franklin the Sunday before Ash Wednesday, come join the fun at St. Rose!
