CommunionPope names new bishop for Diocese of Lafayette
Bishop-designate Timothy L. Doherty accepted the call of Pope Benedict XVI to serve as the sixth bishop of the Diocese of Lafayette, Ind. The appointment was announced in Washington on May 12 by Archbishop Pietro Sambi, apostolic nuncio to the United States. Bishop-designate Doherty’s episcopal ordination and installation will be celebrated on July 15. (Page 1)

New director of Catholic education is selected
The father of eight children and “a Catholic gentleman,” Harry Plummer is coming home to Indianapolis as the new executive director of the Office of Catholic Education and Faith Formation for the archdiocese. The 51-year-old Plummer will start his new position on July 1, after serving the past three years as the superintendent of Catholic schools for the Diocese of Great Falls-Billings in Montana.
