New deacon aspirantsNew class of 18 men begin deacon formation program
Less than two months after the ordination of the first class of permanent deacons in the history of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, a new group of 18 men started their four-year formation program to be the next class ordained. The men and their wives participated in an Aug. 22-24 retreat at Our Lady of Fatima Retreat House in Indianapolis. (Page 1)

Dynamic speakers are on men’s conference itinerary
The third annual Indiana Catholic Men’s Conference on Sept. 27 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis will offer its attendees a slate of dynamic national speakers that come from a variety of walks of life. (Page 7)

Paralympic rower Emma PreuschlIgnoring the doubts: Paralympic rower Emma Preuschl going for the gold in Beijing
On the last day of the rowing trials in Philadelphia, Emma Preuschl rowed her smoothest and strongest race. Hours later, she heard her name announced as one of the five members of a rowing crew that will represent the United States in the 2008 Paralympic Games, the equivalent of the Olympics for people who have physical disabilities. The opening ceremonies are Sept. 6. (Page 9)
