Defining Moments for studentsDefining moments: High school graduates say Catholic education is at heart of who they are
Ask Tricia Schutz what she has gained from her 13 years of Catholic education and she sums it up in a sentence she heard repeatedly at a heartbreaking time in her life.
“If you need anything, I’m here.” The words came from classmates, friends, teachers and neighbors after Tricia’s younger brother died in 2001. Learn more about Tricia and four other recent Catholic high school graduates in this story. (Page 1)

Myths and facts about immigration: Doesn’t illegal immigration threaten our security?
This is the fifth in a seven-part series of immigration reform articles prepared by the Indiana Catholic Conference. Diocesan newspapers throughout the state have agreed to publish the series in its longer form and some parishes are using shorter forms. This week looks at whether immigrants come to the United States for welfare or whether they come to work and reunite with family members. (Page 4)

Deacon logoMeet our future deacons
On June 28, history will be made at SS. Peter and Paul Cathedral in Indianapolis when 25 men from central and southern Indiana become the first permanent deacons ordained for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. This week’s issue of The Criterion continues a series of profiles of these men that will be published in the weeks leading up to that important day. (Page 2)

We've taken the past three years of Criterion issues from our print edition and made three separate compilations of front page images. You can look at 2005, 2006 or 2007 and see every front page from that year put into one picture -- kind of a birds-eye view of the year in Catholic news in Indiana.
