Director of Faith Formation

St. Barnabas Catholic Church is seeking a passionate and faith-filled Director of Faith Formation to lead and grow our parish’s lifelong faith formation efforts for children, youth, adults, and families.
This position plays a vital leadership role in shaping the spiritual life of the parish through sacramental preparation, OCIA, adult discipleship opportunities, children’s catechesis, retreats, Bible studies, and parish-wide formation initiatives. The Director of Faith Formation collaborates closely with the Pastor, parish staff, school leadership, volunteers, and ministry leaders to create a unified and vibrant culture of evangelization and discipleship.
Key Responsibilities
OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults)
- Develop and coordinate the annual OCIA program schedule and curriculum
- Recruit, train, supervise, and support OCIA team members and volunteers
- Facilitate weekly sessions and coordinate catechetical presentations
- Ensure candidates and catechumens are prepared for sacramental reception
- Maintain sacramental and program documentation
Adult Faith Formation
- Plan and oversee parish formation opportunities
- Coordinate guest speakers, reconciliation services, and retreat experiences
- Serve as staff liaison for parish ministries and small groups
- Collaborate with parish leadership to identify and develop new ministry opportunities
Children’s Faith Formation
Religious Education & Sunday Faith Formation
- Recruit, train, and support catechists and volunteers
- Select catechetical materials aligned with diocesan standards
- Coordinate Catechesis of the Good Shepherd programming
- Lead Vacation Bible School planning and implementation
School Collaboration
- Support theology and liturgical programming within the parish school
- Assist with school Masses, Living Stations, reconciliation services, and faith assessments
Sacramental Preparation
Coordinate preparation programs for:
- Baptism
- First Reconciliation
- First Communion
Qualifications
- Practicing Catholic committed to the teachings and mission of the Catholic Church
- Bachelor’s degree required (Theology, Catechesis, or related field preferred)
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently
- Professional discretion and confidentiality
- Valid driver’s license
- Willingness to complete Archdiocesan requirements
- Experience in parish ministry or faith formation
- Training in Catholic theology, Christology, and ecclesiology
- Experience leading volunteers and ministry teams
