Director of Music

Prince of Peace Catholic Church is seeking a full-time Director of Music in Madison, IN.
This person would be responsible for the Director of Music for Prince of Peace Church and will lead all liturgical and devotional music for the parish and various special events. They will also teach music a few hours per week at Prince of Peace Schools, preparing students in liturgical and sacred music for Mass and other sacred events.
This position will supervise students and music personnel.
Responsibilities:
- Preparing, accompanying (piano and organ preferred), and leading music for all Solemnity Masses, including Weekend Masses, Holy Days, and various special Masses hosted throughout the year.
- Preparing, accompanying, and leading music for special devotional prayer, including Adoration, Stations of the Cross, Processions, and special devotional worship.
- Recruiting, growing, teaching, and leading volunteer choirs and cantors
- Preparing and leading music for parishioner weddings and funerals.
- Preparing lessons and teaching K-12 sacred music, a few classes per week
- Policy Adherence: Ensure area of management operates in accordance with the policies set forth by (parish or school or agency name) and the Archdiocese. This involves staying informed about and implementing policies related to professional processes, ethics, and organizational conduct.
- Other duties as necessary to ensure efficient functioning of the School/ Parish/ Agency
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent leadership, organization, and planning skills
- Ability to manage relationships with adults and children in an effective, faithful, and professional manner
- Ability to handle multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
- Understands and adheres to the professional standards of conduct set forth by the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, as well as any as outlined by professional degree/license, as applicable
- Willingness to foster the Church’s mission
Education, Training and Experience
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Proficient in piano and organ preferred
- Traditional & Contemporary Sacred music experience with the ability to lead choirs and cantors
- Experience in composing, accompanying, singing, and conducting
- Active, practicing Catholic committed to all Church teachings
- Must be able to understand and to comply with the Archdiocese of Indianapolis Code of Conduct
- Must be able to successfully complete the Archdiocese of Indianapolis Child Safety Training
- Background screening required
- Ability to reliably travel to off-site locations on a regular basis, including travel of up to two hours from the office, using personal or alternative transportation.
