Development Marketing Director

Position Summary
The Development Marketing Director is responsible for creating and managing content across print, digital platforms, and media that reflects the mission, brand, and message of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis in collaboration with the Office of Communications. This role requires expertise in graphic design, content development from concept to completion, copywriting, social media strategy, video production, and editing.
Serving as the creative driver and writer for fundraising messaging and donor engagement initiatives—including the United Catholic Appeal, Catholic Community Foundation, and other key programs—the Director ensures consistent branding and storytelling across all platforms. Reporting directly to the Executive Director of Stewardship and Development, and with a dotted-line relationship to the Archdiocese Communications Office, this role ensures alignment of messaging, branding, and storytelling. The Director oversees a team responsible for appeals, events, and donor communications, and collaborates with internal and external partners to inspire generosity and deepen donor relationships.
Essential Responsibilities
- Serve as a member of the Stewardship and Development Leadership Team.
- Design and implement an annual promotion and marketing plan for key initiatives, including United Catholic Appeal and other major programs.
- Craft and manage fundraising and stewardship messaging for appeals, newsletters, event collateral, video content, social media, and other outreach.
- Translate marketing objectives into clear creative strategies with measurable KPIs; provide monthly performance reports.
- Ensure visual communication and brand standards align with the Office of Communications.
- Manage relationships with design and print vendors, ensuring quality and timeliness.
- Lead and coordinate third-party partners in developing multimedia tools, including graphics, video, and digital assets.
- Serve as a communication consultant to parishes, schools, and agencies for fundraising strategies.
- Manage website content for messaging, branding, and ease of use.
- Supervise and guide the Development Marketing team.
- Develop and adhere to approved budgets for each project.
- Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Skills & Abilities
- Practicing Roman Catholic with deep faith understanding.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills in writing, design, and speech.
- Knowledge of fundraising and communication practices.
- Collaborative and inclusive approach; ability to work with diverse stakeholders.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or related field (advanced degree preferred).
- 3–5 years of relevant experience in nonprofit communications and marketing.
- Significant experience managing professional staff.
- Deep understanding of the philanthropic landscape in Indiana.
- Must comply with Archdiocese of Indianapolis Code of Conduct and complete Child Safety Training.
- Background screening and valid driver’s license required.
Working Environment
- Evening and weekend work required.
- Travel to various Archdiocesan locations.
- Extended time working on a computer and handling confidential information.
