We are seeking a dynamic, mission-driven Agency Director to lead Catholic Charities Indianapolis with vision, integrity, and a deep commitment to Catholic social teaching.
Primary Function
The Agency Director oversees all operations of Catholic Charities Indianapolis, ensuring compliance, managing staff, and advancing the agency’s mission. This role provides strategic leadership across multiple service areas and ensures high-quality, fiscally responsible program delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Mission Advancement
- Collaborate with the Agency Council to advance the mission of Catholic Charities.
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight to programs, services, and activities.
- Serve as the chief spokesperson for the agency, representing Catholic Charities to staff, donors, government partners, funders, and the broader community.
- Lead and inspire staff through supportive, collaborative management practices.
- Foster strong relationships with state and local governments to advocate for community needs and secure adequate funding.
Program & Community Impact
- Identify emerging community needs and propose innovative, fundable programs.
- Recommend new service opportunities to the Agency Council and Secretariat for Catholic Charities Executive Director.
- Work with leadership to prioritize needs and advance strategic planning.
- Promote a culture of continuous quality improvement in collaboration with the Director of Risk and Quality Improvement.
Financial & Operational Oversight
- Ensure fiscal accountability and responsible stewardship of agency resources.
- Lead in developing and approving the annual agency budget.
- Oversee personnel matters, including hiring, salaries, benefits, and staff development.
- Safeguard confidential information and ensure compliance with all policies and standards.
Development & Fundraising
- Collaborate with the Office of Stewardship and Development and the Executive Director on fundraising initiatives.
- Build and maintain relationships with donors.
- Oversee grant proposals, applications, and fundraising events.
Communication & Collaboration
- Provide forums for staff communication, including departmental and agency-wide meetings.
- Represent the agency in community partnerships, media interactions, and collaborative initiatives.
Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- Practicing Roman Catholic in good standing with a strong appreciation for Catholic social teaching.
- Proven leadership experience in a direct service organization.
- Strong visionary leadership with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
- Creative, strategic thinker with sound decision-making abilities.
- Collaborative leadership style that promotes teamwork and accountability.
- Ability to build trust, foster consensus, and advance the Church’s mission.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in social work or mental health required; master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in strategic leadership, operational oversight, financial stewardship, and stakeholder management within a nonprofit setting preferred.
- Experience in program management, community relations, and development/fundraising.
- Understanding of budgets, fiscal management, and risk assessment.
