About the Role

Saint Paul and Saint Mark Catholic Church is seeking a Director of Sacred Music to lead and coordinate joyful, vibrant liturgical music that enhances the worship experience and supports the parish’s mission. This part-time role blends pastoral ministry with professional musical leadership, serving as both a principal instrumentalist and a mentor to volunteer musicians.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and oversee music for all liturgical events, including weekend Masses, holy days, funerals, and special parish celebrations.
  • Serve as the primary instrumentalist (piano/organ preferred) for liturgies.
  • Recruit, train, and support volunteer accompanists and instrumentalists.
  • Provide musical formation for the assembly and introduce new repertoire.
  • Develop new musical ministries, such as a youth choir.
  • Maintain parish sound systems and instruments.
  • Collaborate with the pastor on additional responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

  • Ability to teach and work effectively with volunteers.
  • Faithful to Catholic teachings and liturgical directives.
  • Positive attitude and commitment to ministry.
  • Competent instrumentalist (expertise not required).
  • Knowledge of Roman Catholic liturgy or willingness to receive ongoing formation.
  • Must comply with Archdiocese of Indianapolis Code of Conduct and complete Safe Parish Training.
  • Background screening required.

A degree in Music or Liturgy is not required for this position.
