Director of Music and Liturgy

St. Lawrence Catholic Church seeks a dynamic and faith-filled Music Director to lead and grow our parish music ministry. The ideal candidate will inspire full, conscious, and active participation in the liturgy through music, while fostering a welcoming and collaborative environment for musicians and parishioners alike.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and direct music for all liturgical celebrations, including:
    • Weekend Masses (5)
    • Weekday Masses (2)
    • Holy Days, funerals, weddings, quinceañeras, and school liturgies
  • Lead and coordinate choirs (Traditional, Youth, Hispanic and Haitian), cantors, and accompanists
  • Recruit, train, and mentor volunteer musicians
  • Schedule and conduct rehearsals; arrange for substitutes as needed
  • Select and prepare music in collaboration with the Pastor
  • Oversee maintenance of instruments and music library
  • Prepare worship aids for special liturgies
  • Manage the music ministry budget
  • Participate in parish events and ongoing professional development

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music or related field
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in pastoral music ministry
  • Proficiency in voice, piano, organ, and choral conducting
  • Strong knowledge of Catholic liturgy and the General Instruction of the Roman Missal (GIRM)
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to living in harmony with the Church’s moral teachings
  • Ability to pass background screening and complete Archdiocesan Child Safety Training
  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred:

  • Bilingual or multilingual (Spanish, French, or Haitian Creole)
  • Familiarity with both traditional and contemporary liturgical music
