THE AFRICAN CATHOLIC MINISTRY OF THE ARCHDIOCESE OF INDINAPOLIS

PURPOSE

The purpose of the African Catholic Ministry, in cooperation with the Office of Black Catholic Ministry, is to gather African immigrants or anyone who is concerned with the issues of the African community for friendship, worship, and meaningful participation in the life of the Church in Indianapolis while addressing issues facing African Catholic Community.

 

MISSION

The mission of the African Catholic Ministry, in corrperation with the Office of Black Catholic, is to seek to see the face of Christ in each other by:

*Mutually enhancing and celebrating the cultural diversity and ethnic traditions of worship and life within the family, community and youth

*Responding and valuing the connectedness to all cultures, families, community and people of all ages

*Nuturing, educating, learning, and sharing each other's unique gifts.

*Motivating and cultivating full participation in the life of the church for people of all ages by providing an open and welcoming environment.

 

VISION

The vision of African Catholic ministry is to promote African Catholic traditions of worship while addressing issues facing the African Catholic community.

PLAN & SERVICES

  • Enhancing our spiritual growth.
  • Learning and promoting different African songs through our African Catholic Choir.
  • Helping newly arrived immigrants or refugees of African descent to the United States.
  • Educating and promoting African cultural dances to children.
  • Addressing issues facing the African community.
  • Celebrating diversity within the African Catholic community.

Membership

Membership is free and open to anyone who is Catholic and of African descent, or anyone who is concerned with the issues of the African Catholic community. To receive ongoing information, attend quarterly meetings, or volunteer, one needs to fill out the contact information form.

MEETINGS

The African Catholic Ministry meetings take place on the 3rd Sunday of every quarter: January, April, July and October at Holy Angels Catholic Church. Holy Angels is located at 740 W. 28th Street, Indianapolis, IN.

African Mass

African Mass is offered on the 1st Sunday of June and December at St. Rita Catholic Church beginning at 3 p.m. St Rita is located at 1733 Dr. Andrew J. Brown Ave, Indianapolis, IN. If you are interested in joining the choir, please complete the contact information form.
