Director of Religious Education

St. Luke Catholic Church, Indianapolis, IN (Archdiocese of Indianapolis) is seeking a full-time Director of Religious Education (DRE).

I. POSITION SUMMARY
The Parish Director of Religious Education develops, coordinates, and supervises parish programs and activities related to faith formation. The position’s primary emphasis is on preparation for the celebration of sacraments. These programs include:

  • Preparation of families for the baptism of their children, including older children in OCIC (Order of Christian Initiation of Children).
  • A children’s catechetical program for grades pre-K-8 that includes preparation for Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation.
  • Providing faith formation opportunities for adults including Bible studies, retreats, parish mission, pilgrimages, and other faith-related educational opportunities.
  • Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA).
  • Collaborates with and/or oversees the faith formation programs within the youth and young adult, evangelization, and spiritual life ministries.

II. THE PARISH
St. Luke Catholic Church is a parish of about 1,700 households in Indianapolis, IN (north Deanery). Founded in 1961, St. Luke has been served by Archdiocesan Priests in the Archdiocese of Indianapolis.  The Parish has an active school and pre-school with 600 students.

III. QUALIFICATIONS

  • The DRE should be a practicing Catholic with knowledge of the Church’s teachings, liturgy, and structure.
  • Master’s degree in theology is preferred; bachelor’s degree in theology or related field is required.
  • Experience as a catechist or teacher.
  • Experience with administration and supervision, working with paid staff and/or volunteers and program planning.
  • At least 5 years experience in catechetical ministry preferred or pastoral ministry.
  • Willingness to learn and implement the policies, procedures, and curriculum of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis.

IV. SALARY AND BENEFITS
We are seeking a full-time, salaried director. Salary will be based on a presumption of 35 hours per week, with some evening and weekend programs throughout the year, and dependent on education, certification, and experience. Also included:
