Two events planned on first weekend of Advent in Indianapolis North Deanery

Two parishes in the Indianapolis North Deanery are offering events to mark the Advent season and its time of preparation before the celebration of Christ’s birth.

  • St. Joan of Arc Parish, 4217 Central Ave., in Indianapolis, will host its 10th Annual Men’s Advent Prayer Breakfast on Dec. 1. The morning will begin with Mass at 8 a.m., followed by breakfast and a talk by Father Guy Roberts, the parish’s pastor. All are welcome and there is no charge.   • St. Matthew the Apostle Parish, 4100 E. 56th St., in Indianapolis, will offer an Advent Evening of Reflection starting at 6 p.m. on Dec. 2. Thanksgiving Day run/walk to benefit Becky’s Place in Bloomington

Catholic Charities Bloomington is sponsoring the 5th Annual Thanksgiving Day 5K Run for Hope and One Mile Family Fun Walk to benefit Becky’s Place in Bedford, which helps women and children experiencing homelessness move toward a life of self-sufficiency.

The event will start at 9:30 a.m. on J Street at Bedford’s town square. The cost for the 5K Run for Hope is $20 for adults older than 18, and $15 for those 18 and younger. The cost for the Family Fun Walk is $10 per person.
