My Journey to God

The Death of a Friend

I hoped to walk this path with you and hold
your hand until the end but obstacles were placed
along the way that could not be removed.

Tears of anguish I cried in mournful loss.
Oh, lift the veil of sorrow and shine the light
of peace upon my grieving heart.

Then in the silence of the bitter broken night,
I knew that love would find a way to trace the cross
upon your head and say good-by to you, my friend.

For even in this darkest hour when all seemed lost
and nothing would remain, our faith stood firm
to glorify our God in one another.
