My Journey to God

Still Life

Her cherished plants
Now grow between
Her rocking chair
And window screen—
A few clay pots,
A narrow sill,
Pots filled with soil
She used to till
On her old farm
Not far away,
The home she’s known
Since wedding day.
Transplanted now
To kinder clime
She must take root
And hope, in time,
Blossom again
And find the will
To tend her plants—
They need her still.
