Franciscan Sister Gloria Kellerman ministered as an educator for 73 years

Franciscan Sister Gloria Kellerman (formerly Sister Francis Cecile) died on Nov. 2 at the motherhouse of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis in Oldenburg. She was 93.

The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Nov. 6 at the Motherhouse Chapel in Oldenburg. Burial followed at the sisters’ cemetery.

Sister Gloria was born on Dec. 20, 1931, in Cincinnati. She joined the Sisters of St. Francis on Sept. 10, 1949, and professed final vows in on Aug. 12, 1956. Sister Gloria earned a bachelor’s degree in education at Marian University in Indianapolis and a master’s degree in education at Xavier University in Cincinnati.

For 73 of her 76 years as a member of the Sisters of St. Francis, Sister Gloria ministered in education in Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Montana and Ohio. She served in Catholic schools for 40 years and for 33 years as a general education diploma teacher in Cincinnati.

In the archdiocese, Sister Gloria served at Holy Name of Jesus School in Beech Grove from 1954-58, the former St. Michael School in Charlestown from 1977-80, St. Lawrence School in Indianapolis from 1980-83 and at St. Mary School in Greensburg from 1983-92.
