45th Annual Benefit Dinner
Thank you for making the 45th Annual Benefit Dinner a success! Highlights of the evening include:
Judy Hogan received the 2019 John E. Etling Distinguished Service Award for creating hope for our hungry neighbors through her efforts to feed the hungry.
The 2019 Council President's Award was presented to Josh Curry for being an everyday hero by going above and beyond to make sure our guests at the Fishes and Loaves Soup Kitchen are welcomed and served.
Mary Weaver, former resident of Bethany House Shelter, thanked the staff for being supportive and nurturing and "steering my life in the direction I need to achieve my goals."
Jacklyn Chaney, Development Manager for Feeding America, shared her story of growing up in poverty, the constant exhaustion of climbing the socioeconomic ladder and the guilt and shame that she carries for having escaped poverty while her family and friends back home continue to live in it.
September is Hunger Action Month, a nationwide campaign to encourage the public to take action against hunger. As a member of Feeding America’s nationwide network of food banks, we’re asking you to support Terre Haute Catholic Charities Foodbank and the people we serve by taking action and raising awareness. With this 30 Ways in 30 Days calendar, you can participate all month with others across America as we stand together with Feeding America to fight hunger. One in seven people in our community are food insecure - help us use the month of September to spread the word and take action on the hunger crisis.
Congratulations to Pete McCarville, winner of the 2019 Wabash Valley Rubber Duck Regatta!

Community Foundations Help Brighten Ryves Youth Center
The Wabash Valley Community Foundation and Catholic Community Foundation both provided funding to
clean, level, seal, and protect the floor in the basement dining room of Ryves Youth Center to help ensure both the safety of the youth clients and their families, but also to help maintain the use, function, and appearance of the flooring.
This type of flooring is used in heavily-trafficked retail outlets and facilities such as Holy Family Shelter in Indianapolis. This flooring system has been proven to hold up over time and to reduce the long-term maintenance cost and program downtime. This reduced program downtime allows us to provide uninterrupted services such as evening meals for the youth participating in our Ryves Youth Center programs.
Many thanks to both foundations for helping us create an inviting, safe, and better functioning dining room!
