Maintenance Technician

The Archdiocese of Indianapolis is seeking a dependable and skilled Maintenance Technician to support the daily maintenance, repair, and appearance of assigned buildings and grounds. This role performs hands‑on maintenance and custodial work to ensure facilities are safe, functional, and welcoming in support of the Church’s mission.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform general maintenance and repairs, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and painting
  • Assist with routine inspections of facilities, grounds, building systems, and equipment
  • Complete scheduled preventative maintenance tasks (filters, light bulbs, plumbing traps, equipment and door checks)
  • Respond promptly to assigned maintenance requests and emergency repair needs
  • Set up and break down rooms for meetings, events, and activities
  • Maintain exterior grounds, supplementing contracted services for snow removal, leaf removal, mowing, and tree care
  • Assist with ensuring compliance with safety regulations and Archdiocesan policies
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and accurate maintenance records
  • Perform work in a manner that minimizes disruption to staff and guests
  • Perform custodial and cleaning duties as required
  • Other duties as assigned to support efficient facility operations

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Prior experience in maintenance, custodial work, or facility operations preferred
  • Basic knowledge of building systems and repair techniques
  • Knowledge of HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems preferred
  • Ability to safely operate maintenance tools and equipment
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail
  • Good organizational, time‑management, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Familiarity with OSHA and general workplace safety standards preferred
  • Valid driver’s license required

Additional Requirements

Successful completion of background screening and Child Safety Training

  • Compliance with the Archdiocese of Indianapolis Code of Conduct
  • Willingness to support and foster the mission of the Catholic Church

Working Conditions

Work is performed indoors and outdoors with exposure to varying weather conditions. Position requires standing and walking for extended periods, frequent lifting up to 50 lbs., and occasional evening, weekend, and emergency work.
