Important information you can find on this page:

General Information

The National Catholic Youth Conference is one of the largest gatherings of Catholic young people in the nation, and in order that they have a safe and exceptional experience, we need many volunteers! We need at least 1000 volunteers to serve in a variety of roles! We need adults who would like to witness the young Church in action by volunteering their time and talents and a few of the areas of need are the following:

  • Hoosier hospitality for our guests
  • Assisting in setting up liturgies
  • Safety, security, and crowd management
  • Assisting in the Thematic Park
  • Transportation assistance

These are only a few of the areas in which we will need help. We do not expect you to be available for the whole conference, so you are able to sign up for parts of the days for the conference.

If you have any questions, please e-mail NCYCvolunteers@olgreenwood.org.

How to Register as a Volunteer:

Step 1: Complete the online volunteer registration application. There are two ways to register to be an NCYC 2011 volunteer. You can register online by filling out the Online Volunteer Application and Registration.

You can also register as a volunteer by completing the Downloadable Registration Application and e-mailing it to Theresa Brydon at tbrydon@archindy.org. You may also fax your application to the attention of Theresa Brydon at 317-261-3364.

Step 2
: All adults must have attended a Virtus session or its equivalent from another Diocese.  To register for a Virtus session visit the Virtus website.  Register for the session that is most convenient for you based on the times and locations offered.  Upcoming sessions include Nov. 2nd at 6pm at St. Malachy in Brownsburg, Nov 5th and 12th at 9am at St. Lawrence in Indianapolis, Nov 6th at 2pm at St. Susanna in Plainfield, and Nov 8th at 6:30pm at St. Gabriel in Indianapolis. Check periodically for updates as session may be added.

Step 3: Background checks are required for all adults.  You can download the background check form here. This should be processed through your parish so please submit your completed form to your parish office.  Please include a check payable to your parish in the amount of $15.50. If you are not connected to a parish, you may send this to: Theresa Brydon at the Office of Catholic Education, 1400 N. Meridian Street, Indianapolis, IN 46202. Check payable to Archdiocese of Indianapolis Youth Ministry. If you are a parishioner outside of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, please see your parish or diocesan office to complete equivalent requirements. Please note: One does not need to wait to attend Virtus to complete the Background Check.

Step 4: Attend one of the Volunteer Orientation Sessions scheduled throughout the Archdiocese. Attendance at a live orientation session is preferred, however if you are unable to attend one the remaining sessions listed below, you may watch the Online Volunteer Orientation that will address the same necessary information. After viewing this on-line orientation, please complete and submit this certification that you have watched the Online Training. If you have any questions, please e-mail NCYCvolunteers@olgreenwood.org.

Thank you for answering the Call to Volunteer.  We look forward to seeing you in November!

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I attend NCYC as a participant/chaperone and be a volunteer?
A: Yes, as long as you are 18 years of age or older.  You will need to register as both a participant/chaperone and as a volunteer.  You can register as volunteer on this web page.  To register as a participant/chaperone please see the youth minister at your parish.

Q: Will I be trained on my volunteer responsibilities?
A: Yes, all volunteers will be trained.  All volunteers will receive general training at one of the training sessions listed above.  In addition volunteers will receive job specific training closer to the start of NCYC.  All registered volunteers will receive regular mail and email reminders to attend one general training session.

Q: How will I know my volunteer job assignment and things like where to park and what to do about meals while I work?
A: Specific information about your volunteer assignment, shifts, check-in, parking, meals, etc., will be provided at the volunteer training sessions.

Q:  Can I attend the conference when my assignment is finished?
A: Volunteers are credentialed with numbered credential badges – not by volunteer individually. Credentials are returned during check out to be re-used.  Everyone is to be credentialed when inside the convention center and Lucas Oil.  We are asking all volunteers to help monitor this and send anyone not credentialed to the appropriate area to get credentials.  Therefore, it is our understanding volunteers, unless properly credentialed, will not be able to roam the premises.

Q:  Where can I park?
A: There will be limited volunteer parking available within the 3-4 block radius of Lucas Oil and the Convention Center.  We will post logistics on the website once details are finalized.   Please carpool if possible.

Q:  What if I am not virtus trained and cannot attend a virtus session before the conference?
A: We believe Virtus is important information for anyone working with the youth.   We recognize many adults registering to volunteer were not anticipating this requirement and are unable at this late date to comply.  We will waive this requirement.   Non-Virtus trained volunteers will be assigned a job not directly working with youth.
A current Background Check still remains a mandatory requirement.

Q:  What do you mean by a current background check?
A: Within the past five (5) years.
