Archbishop Daniel M. Buechlein invites you on this pilgrimage:
Dear Fellow Pilgrims,
I am thrilled to share with you exciting news pertaining to the upcoming canonization of
Blessed Mother Theodore Guérin, the 19th-century foundress of the Sisters of Providence of
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.
Blessed Mother Theodore was truly a remarkable, visionary woman of faith. It has been nearly
170 years since Blessed Mother Theodore came to Indiana from France and established the
Sisters of Providence near Terre Haute and began teaching the children of our ancestral
pioneers. To this day, we experience the lasting effects of her zeal and selflessness in Catholic
schools throughout the archdiocese.
Blessed Mother Theodore once wrote; "Ours is a preparation for the generation that will
succeed us, and eminent good will be done this way by us. You may not live to see it, but you
will have sown the seed." In Blessed Mother Theodore Guérin, we have a pioneer patroness
whose legacy we share.
I would be honored to have you join me for this special moment in our universal Church.
With prayers for almighty God's divine providence in your life,
Most Reverend Daniel M. Buechlein, O.S.B.
Archbishop of Indianapolis
