‘Cooling Down’ in Youngstown
Summer festivals feature mission
Parish festivals in Youngstown, Ohio, feature a glimpse of mission, as Director Father Edward Brienz distributes copies of the newest MISSION magazine. And, thanks to a donor in that diocese, there’s also something sweet to savor for those who stop by the Pontifical Mission Societies’ booth – fudgesickles with the slogan on the wrapper, “Missions are cool!”
Starting with the spring 2011 MISSION, readers may read the entire issue online, or download a .pdf copy of it. There are also the expanded modules of stories from each issue, with additional information and photographs to be found at www.MISSIONMagazine.org. Also on that website: a look at MISSION through the past 60 years, with updates in copy and image every two weeks. In the spotlight now: MISSION from 1971, on the publication’s 20-year anniversary.
Keep Those Cards and Orders Coming!
Returning direct-mail appeals cards, and ordering World Mission Sunday materials
As you receive and acknowledge donations to the Summer Appeal – for the support of mission seminarians through the Society of St. Peter Apostle – remember to gather all those donor cards and send them to the national office to update your mailing list. Important information – such as a new address or other change in donor record – is included on each card, in addition to the record of how much was contributed for the Missions.
This year’s Summer Appeal focuses on St. Thomas Aquinas Major Seminary in Nairobi, Kenya. The initial mailing – and the followup mailing (now in process) – discuss the formation of these future missionaries, emphasizing their own great desire to make Christ present in all times, in all places. To quote one seminarian, Joshua: “We need to use every path, every way to help others have a sense of God in their lives.” Our main w ebsite – www.OneFamilyInMission.org – currently features a lightbox highlighting the appeal’s theme: “Ready for Work.” The “learn more” button takes the web visitors to the inside page, telling the appeal’s story and offering a way to support this great mission need through the Society of St. Peter Apostle.
On the ordering side, many have already ordered their 2011 World Mission Sunday materials online. If you haven’t placed an order for your parish materials, please log in to our Intranet site and follow the directions there.
The poster this year showcases an image from St. Joseph’s Church, a rural parish in Mutunguru, Kenya. Joy fills this image, and you can almost hear this parish choir singing the Lord’s praises as they celebrate their faith and lead the way to Sunday Mass. Watch for more E-Blasts about this year’s materials – their look and theme, “Celebrating the Hope that Saves.”
