Ministry of Consolation, Grief and Bereavement

Bereavement Ministry provides assistance through retreats, conferences and peer support for those who have lost loved ones.

Seasons of Hope - Christ Centered Grief Support

Seasons of Hope is a bereavement ministry for adults centered on Jesus Christ and grounded in the healing wisdom, traditions, and practices of our Catholic Church. The program illustrates how to develop a faith sharing ministry for those who have lost a loved one and find themselves having difficulty moving beyond their grief. The program offers six weekly sessions exploring mourning through scripture, prayer, reflection and sharing.

Upcoming Meetings:

Seasons of Hope at St. Joan of Arc, Indianapolis, will meet starting January 14, 2020 at 6pm. For more information, contact the parish at (317) 283-5508.

18th Annual Mission Day - September 10, 2019

Fr. Ron Rolheiser, will be keynote speaker. Learn more about Fr. Ron here

Recognizing that there is still a stigma, in both the Christian and secular world, surrounding death by suicide, Fr. Rolheiser takes his spiritual understanding of the woundedness of those whose lives end in this pain, and “breathes out the compassion and peace of God” in his book, Bruised and Wounded.

Many, many people in the world have been touched by suicide. Fr. Rolheiser’s writings provide hope, consolation, and empathy to those left behind. We are fortunate to be able to welcome Fr. Rolheiser to the Archdiocese in Fall 2019.

Each year the Office of Marriage and Family Life offers a day of reflection, education, and support for those involved in consolation ministries or those wishing to become involved. Previous Mission Day topics have included: Understanding and Responding to Traumatic Loss; Living in the "Shadows of the Ghosts" of Grief; Suicide Grief/Mental Illness; The Joy of Serving the Brokenhearted; A Family’s Grief - Recognizing and Responding to Each Member’s Loss; Building Comprehensive Grief Ministry Teams; and our most recent 2018 End of Life Issues and Moral Ethics.

3rd Annual Peace in the Mourning Retreat

Ocotber 25-27, 2019: 3rd Annual Peace in the Mourning: A Christ Focused Widow’s Retreat, Our Lady of Fatima House

Jennifer Trapuzzano found herself to be a widow less than a year after being married and just a few weeks before their first daughter was to be born.As a faithful Catholic, Jennifer clung to Christ, who has carried her though many dark times. She learned that “even in the darkest times, there’s always a light.”

While grieving has never been easy, she found understanding, companionship, and comfort by relating with other widows. Her hope is that through Peace in the Mourning, faithful widows can come together for hope and healing as they remember their beloved spouses.

The 3rd Annual Peace in the Mourning Retreat has been planned for you by widows who want others to experience the peace they found in this retreat experience last year.
