Archbishop Buechlein at Mass

Take a look around our site to learn more about Legacy for Our Mission, our archdiocesan capital campaign that all parishes are participating in -- or soon will be.

It’s unchanging, never ending, and always new

Welcome to the Legacy for Our Mission homepageIt’s as old as the sacrifice of the cross, and as new as each day’s Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. It’s a holy mystery, a legacy inherited from our parents and grandparents. But make no mistake, it’s ours. Individually and together, our calling, our mission, is to see the face of Jesus in prayer and in service – and to reveal the face of Jesus to all who are in need. "Truly I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me" (Mt.25:40).

As the Church of Jesus Christ, we are called to build upon the good works begun here long ago by the pioneers of faith who came to central and southern Indiana from distant lands. In spite of many hardships and great adversity, the priests, religious women and lay Catholics who built this local church persevered in their faith. They carried on the mission of Christ through their worship, through service to and educating others in the faith, and through their sacrificial gifts.

Because of their generosity, we’re blessed with parishes, schools, hospitals, social service agencies and religious houses that give glory to God and that continue the ministry of Christ in all regions of our archdiocese. It is a precious legacy that we must hand on to others – for our children and the future. This is the “Legacy for Our Mission” that we are called to continue.

Over the past four years, a task force commissioned by Archbishop Daniel M. Buechlein thoroughly researched the future needs of our archdiocese and crafted a plan for meeting them. It is clear that we must once again invite the Catholic people of our archdiocese to make generous commitments of their time, talent and treasure to help carry on the mission of the Church, our Church.

O Lord, our God,
We seek the guidance of your Holy Spirit
in this new moment of grace.

Be with us as we look to the future of our parishes.
May everything we do
begin with the inspiration of your Holy Spirit,
continue with your support,
and reach perfection in your will.

Lord, we need your help in carrying out
the mission of Christ’s charity
here in central and southern Indiana.

Through the intercession of
Saint Joseph,
Saint Francis Xavier, and
Saint Theodora Guérin,
help us secure a thriving
Legacy for Our Mission
for our children and for generations to come.

We ask this in the name of Jesus, the Lord.
