Seminarian Profile: Peter Jansen
Our Lady of the Greenwood Parish, Greenwood
Favorites...
- Book: tough choice, either the 3rd, or the 7th Harry Potter books
- Movie: tougher choice, no real favorites; we watch so many movies that it really just depends on what I feel like at the time
- Sports team: IU HOOSIERS!
- Band: don’t really have one; usually I just listen to whatever music other people have playing. I like it all, except hard country and rap
- Quote: “The glory of God is man fully alive.” –St. Iraneus
- Saint: St. Michael the Archangel, because he stood up against the rebellious angels at the beginning of time and kicked them out of Heaven, and he still helps us fight the power of evil today.
Hi, my name is Peter Jansen. I’m the third of four boys in my family, and I have been born and raised near Indianapolis by my wonderful parents. I recently graduated from Center Grove High School in 2008, and am entering the Bishop Simon Brute College Seminary at Marian College this fall. I have had many wonderful opportunities to travel, including several spots in the continental US, as well as Bosnia, Hawaii, and most recently, Australia. I like playing sports and being active. I also enjoy reading, learning about how things work, learning languages, and watching movies with my friends and family.
During my freshman year of high school, I had a major conversion back to the faith. It was gradual, not all at once, but it happened. Then, the next year, I heard a talk about vocations and how all young men should at least keep the option to a religious vocation open, so I did. Having been praying about what God wants me to do for about a year, I started to pray even harder before my junior year with the intent that I would work extra hard to enter a good college. At the end of a retreat that fall, I strongly felt that I had received that call that I had been praying for, and have been pursuing it ever since then.
