My Journey to God

Advent Longing

O come, Emmanuel,
envelop me in silence,
enfold me in mystery,
wrap me in the midnight mantle
of stillness and solitude.

Teach my soul to wait with eager
anticipation
for the day when the lion lies with the lamb,
when swords become plowshares,
when brokenness calls forth wholeness,
when oppression gives way to justice.

Massage my world-wearied heart
that it may beat strongly as it seeks
Your light,
Your truth,
Your Word.

Come, Emmanuel,
illumine the darkness!
