My Journey to God

Death Not Said

Cries of loss,
cries of pain,
without your face
to see again.

Never fear the
miracle abide,
outpour of emotion,
the rolling tide.

It’s not the hurt from
the sudden, sick or old—
sadness because
angels too far to hold.

By Christa Hammack

(Christa Hammack is a member of St. Mary Parish in New Albany. She wrote this free verse poem following the deaths of her sister-in-law in a car accident then a close friend and her father, who both had cancer, within two weeks in May. After spending lots of time reflecting on life and death, she said “this time challenged my faith, but faith is what helped me through.”)
