My Journey to God

While You Were Gone

While you were gone,
I thought of you
Every second of every day.
You were never far away.

While you were gone,
I remembered you,
The hallowed blessing of that morn
When you were born.

While you were gone,
I searched my soul
And asked myself what injury
I’d caused to make you shut of me.

While you were gone,
I cherished you
And all God’s love in prayer I sought
To hold you now, where I could not.

While you were gone—
You still are gone.
In deepest dark I lay awake,
And pray your name, and wait.
