It Seems to Me

Was there a pause in every day
When Joseph put his tools away,
And placed the Christ Child on his knee
For one fun ride coaxed into three?

Did Joseph’s tools catch Jesus’ eye
As childhood quickly passed him by?
Did he not sense the hammer’s blow,
Hear nails pierce wood and hold it so?

Christ bore his cross, it seems to me,
From Joseph’s bench to Calvary.
