Author of St. Theodora book to visit Saint Mary-of-the-Woods

The author of a new book about St. Theodora Guérin, foundress of the Sisters of Providence, will autograph copies of her book about Indiana’s first saint on May 6 at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.

Julie Young of Indianapolis, who wrote A Belief in Providence: A Life of Saint Theodora Guerin, will autograph books in the lobby of Providence Center from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“I am very excited to bring this book to the masses and to make this legendary Hoosier figure accessible to all ages,” Young said. “I really wanted to take a secular approach with Mother Theodore’s life. After all, a saint’s life is not only halos and holy water. Mother Theodore struggled on the Indiana frontier in order to bring education to the youth of an untamed land.”

Young is a graduate of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. She traveled to Rome in October 2006 for the canonization of St. Theodora at the Vatican.

Providence Sister Marie Kevin Tighe, who had worked toward the canonization for 10 years and now serves as director of the Office of the Shrine of St. Theodora, wrote the forward to the book. The congregation’s archives supplied photos. †
