Holy Cross Central School

Holy Cross School in Indianapolis

Holy Cross Central School, located at 125 N. Oriental Street, opened for the academic year 1896-97 with 200 students. In July 1922, a new Holy Cross Church was built, which is the same church used today.

The old 1896 church building served as Holy Cross Central School until April 2000. In 2001, the new school was opened as a combination of an updated portion of an existing building complimented by an enlarged addition to the school. At that time the original 1896 church building was demolished to create parking for both the parish and school.

In 1967, students from the SS. Peter and Paul Cathedral School joined students at Holy Cross. Several years later, St. Mary School students also began attending Holy Cross. The consolidated school that was then supported by three parishes – Holy Cross, SS. Peter and Paul, and St. Mary – became known as Holy Cross Central School.

Holy Cross Central School mission: It is the mission of Holy Cross Central School to provide a quality Catholic education which emphasizes student learning in all areas, foster diversity, responsibility, and self-esteem. Holy Cross Central School is a place where students think, dream, believe, and achieve.

In the 2005-06 school year, Holy Cross Central School became part of Mother Theodore Catholic Academies of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis.
