Programs – Pregnancy and Maternity-Related Counseling

Therapy programsCounseling services are available to our residents in the maternity and transition homes, as well as pregnancy/postpartum outreach clients.  Often when a young woman walks into St. Elizabeth-Catholic Charities she is feeling betrayed, confused, ashamed, scared, and abandoned.  Once we address the immediate physical concerns of the client we turn our attention to the emotional and mental well being of the client. For more information contact Leslea Townsend-Cronin at ltownsend@stelizabethcatholiccharities.org or 812-949-7305.

Types of counseling offered at St. Elizabeth-Catholic Charities:

  • individual counseling
  • group/peer counseling
  • family counseling
  • couple’s (co-parenting) counseling

Therapy can cover a wide range of stressful issues such as:

  • drug and alcohol use
  • mental illness
  • domestic violence issues
  • adjustment issues to the current situation
  • parenting and other family issues
  • self-esteem and self-worth issues

Therapy is also a time that the clients explore their options of parenting and adoption. We strive to help them understand what it takes to make it on their own in the real world and give them the training and confidence to succeed. Through the therapeutic process clients are reminded of their individual potential and strengths.  It is a time for them to explore these opportunities for change in the detail and discuss options for change.  Personal reflection and homework assignments are given by the therapist to assist individuals and families in exploring their personal growth and empowerment.

Referrals come from a number of sources including; crisis pregnancy centers, school counselors, parents, extended family members, social service agencies, physicians, hospitals, clinics, and previous clients.
