Bookkeeper

St. Mary Catholic Church Indianapolis is seeking a part-time Bookkeeper.  This is an onsite, in-person role.
The Bookkeeper is responsible for maintaining and managing all financial records of the parish and provides all financial reporting and analysis of parish financial records.  Acts as local Human Resource management providing on-boarding of new employees including management of time and attendance record keeping and payroll approval through vendor application. 

Responsibilities:

  • Maintains and updates parishioner contributions and reconciles Sunday collection counting deposit.
  • Generates and mails year end contribution statements for parishioners.
  • Manages and records all office bank deposits and processes invoices and requests for payments. 
  • Maintains parish bank accounts and performs monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Prepares and manages the parish budget as well as all year-end financial reporting.
  • Approves bi-weekly timecards and approves bi-weekly payroll.
  • Coordinates applications for permits, licenses, etc. for parish activities. 
  • Purchases office, maintenance and parish supplies as requested. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent communication skills – both oral and written. 
  • Highly proficient Computer Skills including Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, etc.). 
  • Knowledge of accounting and financial principles.
  • High degree of attention to detail and accuracy. 
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task and effectively work in a changing environment.
  • Self-directed with the ability to prioritize work.
  • Able to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality
  • Dependable and punctual.

 EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Technical or college degree in a related discipline or 3+ years of related experience. 
  • Experience working with accounting software. 
  • Must be able to understand and to comply with the Archdiocese of Indianapolis Code of Conduct, successfully completed the Archdiocese Child Safety Training.
  • Background screening required. 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • Work is performed primarily in an office setting.
